The Deputy Police Commander for Kampala Metropolitan, Gerald Twishiime, has assured residents of Nansana that police will maintain law and order throughout the festive season and will not tolerate any acts that disrupt peace.
Twishiime made the remarks while presiding over a community policing activity organised by Kampala Metropolitan Police, where officers engaged residents of Nansana to jointly promote security and reduce crime ahead of the celebrations.
“There will be no room for lawlessness. We are committed to ensuring that residents celebrate in a peaceful and secure environment,” Twishiime said.
He reaffirmed the police commitment to maintaining calm in the area and warned individuals with criminal intentions, particularly during the political period, that firm action would be taken against those who attempt to cause disorder.
“Anyone intending to cause chaos or disrupt peace, especially during elections, will be dealt with according to the law,” he cautioned.
As part of the community engagement, police officers, together with local leaders and residents, conducted a general cleaning exercise at Nansana Farmers’ Market (Kona) and surrounding areas. The activity involved garbage collection and sanitation work aimed at improving public health and safety.
The initiative was welcomed by traders and community members, many of whom expressed appreciation for the police’s involvement in addressing sanitation challenges at the market.
One local leader said the exercise had provided much-needed support to the community.
The Nansana Divisional Police Commander, Anthony Nsada, reminded residents that effective security depends on close cooperation between the community and law enforcement agencies.
“Security begins with you. We urge residents to remain vigilant and work closely with police, especially during this festive period,” Nsada said.
Police encouraged continued collaboration with local leaders and residents to ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly festive season in Nansana.
